Survey Skip Logic |
Skip logic allows the survey respondent to be navigated to different pages, depending on their answers. We recommend understanding the design and skip requirements of your survey before creating the survey in SurveyCapture. We then recommend creating ALL of the pages in your survey before adding the questions. This will allow you to select the pages to skip to. |
Simple SkipThis example illustrates a question on page 1 that determines whether the survey respondent will be navigated to page 2 or page 3. |
| The diagram below illustrates the behaviour we would like to achieve: | |
In step 2 (Questions) add (or edit) the question. Check 'Enabled skipping to a different page when a specific answer is chosen'. Then, next to answer 'No' set 'Skip to Page 3'. There is no need to change anything for the 'Yes' answer, as the next page will be page 2 by default. |
Note: The 'Skip To' list also includes an additional page that does not appear in your design. This is the last page in the survey, and displays a confirmation to your users that the survey was submitted successfully. You can select to skip to this confirmation page. |
Complex SkipThis example illustrates a question on page 1 that determines whether the survey respondent will be navigated to page 2, 3 or 4.We would like them to always get to page 4. If they are navigated to page 2 and click 'Next', we would like them to go from there to page 4. |

| The diagram below illustrates the behaviour we would like to achieve: | |
In step 2 (Questions) add (or edit) the question. Check 'Enabled skipping to a different page when a specific answer is chosen'. Then, next to answer '3' set 'Skip to Page 3'. Next to answer '4' set 'Skip to Page 4'. There is no need to change anything for the '2' answer, as the next page will be page 2 by default. |
When the survey respondent reaches page 2, we want to make sure that when they click 'Next' they go to page 4 (and not 3). We achieve this by setting the 'Next Page' (found in the 'Page Properties' section at the bottom of each page). This sets the default page that the 'Next' button will lead to. This is usually set to the next page in the order, but we can override this. |
Note: If the page also contains questions with answers that have 'Skip To' values, then the skip logic based on the answer selected will take priority over the page setting. |
